Frequent Questions
How Long Should I Stay In For?
Some research has shown that the most effective duration and temperature for an ice bath is between 10 and 15 minutes, at between 10 and 15 degrees celsius.
BUT - A lot of this research was conducted using professional athletes and people with some experience with cold-water therapy. Much of the testing also involved 2x5minute sessions, with a short rest in between.
If you're new to taking ice baths for physical recovery and/or mental strength - keep in mind that the benefits accrue over time. So start slow. There's no rush. Start with 60 seconds at a temperature you can handle and build up over time. Using 5 minutes at 11/12 degrees is a good goal to work towards.
And as with any new health protocol - speak to your doctor before starting.
What Are The Benefits Of Using an Ice Bath Tub
Ice Bath Tubs have been used for centuries, across cultures. From the Ancient Greeks to Modern Day Athletes. There's a reason why certain health protocols (like lifting weights) stand the test of time - because they work.
More and more research is being done on cold water therapy, but here's what the science says so far:
- Faster Recovery. Ice Baths improve blood circulation and reduce inflammation, helping your body to recover faster after a workout, a long race or a tough footy match. Timing is important here, with the maximum benefits coming from "within 24 hours of the exercise"
- Improved Mental Health. Cold Water Therapy has been shown to release endorphins, our brains natural mood booster, reducing feelings of anxiety and stress. Many of our customers use the ice bath tub in the morning, setting them up for a better day. Another important point to note is the increased mental "toughness". There's something genuinely liberating about pushing through your own perceived boundaries. Achieving something you didn't think you could achieve. Taking regular ice baths can help build confidence, affecting across other areas of your life.
- Improve Blood Circulation. Cold Water Therapy dilates your blood vessels, causing them to constrict when you're in the water, then opening up when you get out. This improves circulation and helps flush nasty toxins along the way.
